Football transfer rumours: Joe Cole to exit Liverpool?

Today's tittle-tattle knows where it's pointing its big finger of blame

Having begun his career as a prodigious boy-wonder with the world at his feet, it's difficult to pinpoint exactly where things went wrong for Joe Cole, whose most memorable career highlight to date remains that time when he was forced to flee bare-chested, barefoot and covered in blood ? his own blood ? through a window in the home of the Page 3 glamour girl Keeley Hazell in a bid to escape a hiding from a jealous suitor. There but for the grace of God, a ridiculously large salary, athleticism, good looks and the ability to play football or clamber out of windows at high speed went today's Rumour Mill.

But that was then, this is now and according to the Sun, Cole is now facing another ignominious exit, this time from Anfield, what with the Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish reported to be planning on offloading the 100,000-per-week "Kop flop", who has failed to pull up any trees since pitching up on Merseyside last summer on a free transfer from Chelsea. With both Tottenham Hotspur and Cole's alma mater, West Ham, believed to be interested in the 29-year-old, Liverpool will seek to cash in to the tune of 10m on a player who almost certainly still has plenty to offer any team willing to take a punt. As the Rumour Mill's mother is prone to say: God never closes a door without opening a window.

The Mirror reports that the Birmingham City winger Sebastian Larsson is wanted by both Sunderland and Newcastle United. But with Alex McLeish keen to keep him at St Andrews, Birmingham suits will have to dangle a very juicy carrot in front of their prize Swede, as he'll be out of contract and a free agent come season's end. The Mirror also claims that Aston Villa centre-half Carlos Cullar could be off home to Spain, having done just enough in his 14 appearances this season to attract the attention of La Liga side Espanyol. Should Cullar vacate Villa Park, his departure would free up a dressing-room peg, which could go to Rennes' 3m-rated "utility man" Kader Mangane, a 28-year-old Senegalese international from Dakar with six caps under his belt, who can play in defence and midfield ... but not necessarily at the same time.

The Arsenal left-back Gal Clichy is "reportedly considering his future", according to caughtoffside.com. With only a year left on his contract and talks on a new deal reported to have stalled, the French international would be available at a knock-down price; the antennae of Liverpool's director of football, Damien Comolli, are reported to be twitching furiously.

Despite being only on loan at Juventus from Liverpool, Alberto Aquilani is showing little interest in returning to Anfield, if his public appeal for the Bianconeri to sign Milan playmaker Andrea Pirlo at the end of the season is anything to go by. "It would be fantastic to have Pirlo here," Aquilani told La Gazzetta dello Sport. "My desire is to stay in Turin for a long time, to win a lot, and playing alongside Pirlo would help me to grow even more."

And finally, a brief perusal of the Daily Mail sensationally claims that Young's Dippers are made using Vietnamese River Cobbler; several famous British women are wearing bikinis poolside on their holidays and that Balram Chainrai is on the verge of selling Portsmouth to a Dorset-based Russian named Vladimir Antonov for 17m.
